Ebony/Onyx Character Reference Sheet

Occupation: Part of a special platoon of elite Ninja Soliders from the Griffin Kingdom.
Special Talent/Cutie Mark: As a Sphynx he doesn’t have a cutie mark, but he’s very talented at stealth and sword-fighting.

Personality:
Ebony can be a real pain in the arse for anybody that can catch his attention long enough, and has little understanding of what restrain means. He’s also an excellent liar, more out of necessity than anything. Still, he knows when to respect a superior and do his job no matter how hard or tedious it may be. He’s very energetic and often wakes up late at night just to go and train or fly around a bit, and when after some heavy training the rest of his teammates are all worn out he still has energy to spare!

Biography:

WARNING: EFFING LONG RAMBLE AHEAD

Ebony was born in a somewhat poor town near the capital of Saddle Arabia and was raised as an only child by a single mom, a sphinx named Sandstone. When he was little, and until well into his adulthood, he was know by a different name: Onyx. Such was the name of his twin brother, inside of which he was born into. During the first stages of pregnancy they suffered a horribly mutated version of the Vanishing Twin Syndrome, as one of the fetuses (Onyx) absorbed the other and incorporated it to their own mass. But instead of dying, Ebony’s soul ended up trapped in the body of his brother. He remained there, trapped in the subconscious, not being able to make himself noticed until the day Sandstone got fed up with little Onyx’s bad behavior and took him to the capital to see a therapist. The doctor prescribed them medicine to help him behave, and whatever was on those pills ended up connecting Ebony to the rest of the body and was able to overtake his brother and gain control of his body. Onyx was pushed to the subconscious, and after realizing his new situation and trying (but failing) to regain control over his body, he decided to sabotage the intruder by making that body inhabitable for him. He learned to take control over the subconscious part of his brain, raining nightmares and night terrors on Ebony, and ultimately taking control over bodily functions and causing all sorts of problems. As a result, little Ebony spent most of his childhood in and out hospitals because of how often his organs would fail, even ending up having a couple heart attacks that resulted almost fatal.

The truth was that Ebony simply did not knew how to return his body to his brother and they were both stuck in their current situations. After a couple years tolerating the sabotages, Ebony was finally able to have a conversation with Onyx during a dream and his brother stopped attacking him, but by this time their body was so used to being managed by a second mind that now Onyx had to keep the bodily functions up or else they would fail within hours. On the bright side, from their eleven years on, that body suffered almost no illnesses or injuries because everytime it got hurt or sick Onyx would find a way to heal it much faster than any medicine would.

When they reached their teenage years, onyx started to change for the very worst. He became much more narcissistic and possessive with his brother, wanting to bring death upon everyone who got too close to Ebony, and when he finally found out how to get back in control over the body Ebony almost got too late to stop him from murdering their own mother. Once again in control, Ebony decided this situation was much too dangerous for them to stay and escaped to the Griffin Kingdom with the desire to start a new life. From that point on Onyx was able to take control of their body for short periods of time before having to go back inside and care for the bodily functions that would still not hold up much without him watching over.

After some years of living on the Griffin Kingdom, jumping from place to place and job to job, he was able to join the military and soon enough started to show his skills. Ebony’s talents on skill and swordsmanship were soon noticed and he was integrated in a group of ninja soldiers on training. He’s been living in that same base for almost 20 years now.

Ebony has already been sent on many dangerous missions, and he wouldn’t had come back alive from some of them if it wasn’t because if his brother’s last minute intervention, taking over the body and murdering all their enemies in a blaze of violent anger. Ebony has also been captured and tortured one time, and was able to stand everything their captors tried in order to break him thanks to Onyx. Still, Ebony prefers to try and keep Onyx in as much as he can because of his violent and perverse nature.
Right now Ebony lives inside a secret base reserved for special operations inside Griffin territory and works along other griffons and some ponies. He has a crush on one of the pegasi at work, a specialist on heavy artillery named Fever Dreams, but she has rejected any and all advances he has ever attempted to make. Deep down he knows they have no chance, but for him messing with her is too fun to stop, even if ends up with his nose broken more times than not for this.

Personality (Onyx): As a consequence of spending most of his life trapped inside his own body, Onyx developed a very narcissistic and self-centered personality, and has very little empathy for anyone. He also has a hard time understanding the limits of his own strength once he is able to control his body again and can often get in situations that he later has no idea how to get out of. He’s extremely jealous of his brother, who he considers more his possession that anything, and maintains with him a relationship that could be qualified as “keeping your crush hostage for your own pleasure”. He can make himself heard by Ebony as a voice on his head and can persuade him to do or stop doing stuff if he wants to by controlling some bodily functions, although Ebony won’t let him get his way easily most of the time. He very much has a crush on his brother, since Ebony looks so much like him he is the only thing Onyx recognizes on some level as a person worthy of his time and effort. He also has a great imagination and has created entire worlds for him and his brother to explore during dreams, as long as Ebony behaves, of course.

Also, as a side note, since Onyx was imprisoned inside himself when he was still a cub all his markings stayed in all the way through adulthood, and now everytime he regains control over his body his markings come back on him.

God, I think this is probably the longest shit I have written for my characters ever! (in English that is). Also didn’t had any help proof reading this time so if there’s any errors please wait until I can get em fixed D:

Ebony is one of my fave characters and for good reasons: I’ve had one hell of a time with his story, especially because how FUCKED UP it is. Kind of a strange version of the Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde trope, but in this case one of them is the bad and the other is the…not so bad.

Also I’m thinking about opening up an ask blog on tumblr for one of my pony Oc’s, Newton to be precise. They others will do cameos from time to time.
